Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris reminds motorists that the Labor Day Holiday weekend will likely be a busy one on the roads. The Sheriff's Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit and other Deputies will be participating in a "Buckle Up Florida" enforcement wave from August 31 through September 8, with the goal of encouraging voluntary compliance with Florida's seat belt, child restraint, and other traffic safety laws.
Children under the age of six are covered by Florida's Child Restraint Law, with the driver of the vehicle subject to a $90 citation for each child in violation.
Florida's Seat Belt Law requires all drivers, all front-seat passengers, and all back seat passengers under the age of 18, to be buckled up. Violations are $55 infractions, with the driver held responsible for any passengers under the age of 18.
