"Operation Fast Lane" and "Buckle Up Okaloosa" will both be in high gear this Thursday through Saturday, July 19-21. The Traffic Safety and Enforcement Unit of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office will be especially active during those days on Eglin Parkway through south Okaloosa County and on Highway 98 in the Okaloosa Island to Destin corridor.
The goal of both programs is to encourage voluntary compliance of Florida's Traffic Laws in the interest of public safety. "Operation Fast Lane" is targeted at aggressive driving; "Buckle Up Okaloosa" encourages the use of seat belts and child restraints.
During the three day period, Deputies of the Traffic Unit will concentrate their efforts on the heavily traveled major roads near the beach areas.
Citizens who observe impaired drivers, aggressive drivers, and other violations that threaten public safety at any time may contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office free of charge by dialing *SO on an Alltel Cellular telephone or #OCSO on an AT&T Cellular telephone.
