The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a motorcycle fatality this afternoon (Wednesday afternoon) in Mary Esther. The victim, Julio R. Cordero, age 26 (4-3-1976) was dead at the scene of apparent massive head injuries.

According to witnesses, Cordero was eastbound on Hollywood Boulevard when he apparently lost control of his 1997 Suzuki 750 while traveling at high speed. The motorcycle became airborne when it struck a curb along the south edge of Hollywood Boulevard. The rider was thrown from the cycle; both came to rest in the yard of a residence at Hollywood Boulevard and Brewer Circle, just west of Fort Walton Beach High School. Cordero was not wearing a helmet.

Cordero, who is from New Jersey, and was stationed with the US Air Force at Hurlburt Field, resided at 1-A Deal Avenue, Fort Walton Beach, less than one quarter mile from the crash scene.

The crash was reported at 1:42 this afternoon (Wednesday afternoon).
