A decal bearing a picture of  a cat may help deter auto thieves in Okaloosa County. CAT... "Combat Auto Theft" stickers are available to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office stations in Shalimar, Crestview, Destin, Bluewater Bay, and Santa Rosa Mall.

Motorists who obtain and display one of the decals are informing law enforcement... and potential car thieves... that vehicle is not normally used between the hours of 1:00 Am and 5:00 AM. The sticker gives officers standing authority to stop the vehicle if it is seen on the roads during those hours. Thieves who steal cars bearing "CAT" stickers during those hours risk getting caught at any moment. The decal also may make the vehicle less attractive to potential thieves at any time of the day or night.

Vehicle owners may obtain a CAT sticker by bringing their driver license and vehicle registration, and filling out a simple one-page form at the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. There is no charge for the service.
