The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office has returned from the "Buckle-Up Florida" awards banquet with a second-place statewide award and first-place national award for extraordinary efforts in traffic enforcement. Both awards recognize the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office efforts in traffic management, as well as innovative public education and safety programs throughout 2001.
In a competition called the "Florida Law Enforcement Challenge", law enforcement agencies were judged on the basis of policy, officer training, public information and education, enforcement activity, innovative local programs, effectiveness and quality of award submission package. Judges were specifically looking for efforts in D.U.I., speeding and safety belt law enforcement, as well as creative approaches to traffic management.
The "Buckle-Up Florida" awards were held Friday (June 28) in Jacksonville. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office was awarded a Dual Antenna Traffic Radar with Video from Mobile Vision worth approximately $6,000.
