Murder suspect William Edward "Ed" Brown is in custody in Okaloosa County. Brown was transported last evening (Tuesday evening) by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office from the jail in Tift County, Georgia, where he had been in custody since his capture in Tifton, Georgia, last Friday (June 14).
Brown, age 34 (5-18-68), of Tanager Road, Fort Walton Beach, was served an arrest warrant on charges of Murder and Auto Theft at 12:46 this morning (Wednesday morning) in connection with the strangulation death of his sister-in-law.
Valerie Brown had last been seen alive late on the evening of Tuesday, June 11, when she left her home in Mary Esther to give Ed Brown a ride to his residence in the Wright area. Her body was found inside a vacant townhouse in Ocean City on Thursday, June 13. Ed Brown was taken into custody in Georgia the following day when he crashed Valerie Brown's 1997 Honda Civic during a police pursuit. He later waived extradition and agreed to voluntarily return to Florida to face prosecution.
Valerie Brown, an on-air radio personality at Mix-103 Radio in Destin, was reported missing when she failed to show up for her midday air shift on Wednesday, June 12.
