With the Holiday Season at hand, Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris urges all motorists to help make the roadways safe.

All drivers should pay close attention to weather reports, and allow extra travel time during the holidays. Fatigued drivers can be as dangerous as drunk drivers; travel plans should include plenty of rest time.

From November 21 until January 6, the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office will be actively participating in the "Buckle Up Florida" and the "You Drink-You Drive-You Lose" safety initiatives.

Deputies will be alert for impaired drivers, aggressive drivers, speeders, seat belt and child-restraint violators, and other threats to public safety on the roads of Okaloosa County. "Wolf pack" concentrated enforcement operations, DUI checkpoints, and other special enforcement efforts may be used during the period.

Citizens should immediately report any serious violations they observe by calling *SO, *FHP, or *DUI from a cellular telephone, or by calling the 24-hour non-emergency number for the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office at 651-7400 or 689-5705.
