The sister of a Defuniak Springs teen arrested in connection with the armed robbery of two Illinois tourists on Okaloosa Island July 15th is now charged in the same crime.
17-year old Akira Thomas of Fort Walton Beach was served a warrant October 2nd for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and robbery with a firearm.
Her brother, 18-year old Shakeem Thomas, was arrested by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office September 23rd on those charges, along with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
The two victims, tourists from Illinois, were walking along Santa Rosa Boulevard on Okaloosa Island around midnight July 5th when they saw a red sedan following them.
The car parked and a young man, later identified as Shakeem Thomas, got out of the passenger seat and pointed a handgun at one of the pedestrians, demanding money.
The victim gave him a small amount of cash and he and the driver, identified as Akira Thomas, then left the area.
