Undersheriff Steve Harker

Undersheriff Steve HarkerEducation:  Masters of Arts in Theological Studies, Liberty University; Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration, San Diego State University; Graduate of the FBI Academy, Florida Chief Executive Seminar, Class 50; and numerous other law enforcement courses. Certified Fraud Examiner in 2010, FBI Firearms Instructor from 1999-2016. Specialty Open Water Scuba Instructor with Professional Association of Scuba Instructors (PADI).

Military:  Honorable Discharge US Army; served as a founding member, Fire Team Leader, and Sniper Team Leader in 3/75th Ranger Battalion, 1984-1987;  Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Good Conduct Medal, Ranger Tab, Airborne Wings, Expert Infantryman Badge, Jungle Expert Award, US Army Sniper School graduate.

Career:   Served as an FBI agent in the San Diego, San Juan, and Jacksonville divisions, specializing in Drug Trafficking, Violent Crimes-Major Offenders, Extra-Territorial Matters, White-Collar Crime and Public Corruption. Served as Acting Supervisory Senior Resident Agent and as a Special Agent in the Fort Walton Beach Office of the FBI from 2000 to retirement in 2016. Took part in multiple joint federal-County bank robbery investigations, Crimes on Government Reservation, joint multi-million dollar fraud investigations, and the joint investigations and arrests of key public figures in Okaloosa County. While still serving with the FBI, appointed by Sheriff Larry Ashley in 2014 as a Special Deputy to work joint investigation matters with Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Then upon retirement from the FBI, appointed by Sheriff Ashley to the position of Undersheriff in August, 2016.

Honors and Affiliations:  Co-Chair of Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Star Charity, Board Member of Children in Crisis, and member of the Destin Rotary Club, Deacon at First Baptist Church of Niceville.
