OCSO NAMES COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER OF THE YEAR
Mike Miller has
been named 2008 Communications Officer of the Year for the Okaloosa County
Sheriff's Office. Supervisors say Miller deserves the honor for not only showing
confidence and poise under pressure, but specifically his handling of an
incident involving an officer-related traffic crash on March 16, 2008.
Corporal Mark Raiche was
injured when his patrol car was forced off State Road 85 south of Crestview by
an impaired driver heading north in the southbound lanes. Raiche's car flipped
multiple times and he sustained serious injuries. Miller was praised for
remaining calm and providing information and assistance both over the radio,
as well as the telephone,
to coordinate the response.
In addition to his
communications duties, Miller was recognized for taking on the responsibilities
of acting Shift Supervisor on weekends and FCIC/NCIC (Florida Crime Information
Center/National Crime Information Center) record validations.
He has been employed
at the Communications Center since October 1, 2006.
