ATTEMPTED FRAUD INVESTIGATION
The Okaloosa
County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspected attempted fraud case
involving a man who claimed to be a homeowners' insurance risk assessor.
A Mary Esther
couple reports a man called them in late January saying he was doing risk
assessment inspections for insurance companies. They set up a February 6th
appointment with the man. The
subject came over, took pictures of the residence, and said he was conducting an
inspection to allow their insurance company to better assess the homeowner's
policy. He then requested an $80 payment.
The couple complied.
However after contacting their insurance companies and learning no one had sent
this individual to their home, they put a stop payment on the $80 check.
Anyone else with
information, or who feels he or she may have been victimized, is asked to
contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office at 850-651-7420 or 689-5705.
