INTRUDER NABBED AT CHOCTAWHATCHEE HIGH SCHOOL

A fugitive from the Escambia River Outward Bound Juvenile Detention Program was captured today inside a bathroom at Choctawhatchee High School following a school lockdown.

18-year old Alonzo Borum of Fort Walton Beach is charged with escape, grand theft auto, and trespassing on school grounds.

Investigators say Borum escaped from the juvenile detention facility in Pensacola , stole a car, and then ditched it at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach .

A school resource officer learned Borum was inside the school. Law enforcement officers from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office and Fort Walton Beach Police Department were on the scene quickly as the school went into lockdown mode.

During a search, Borum was found hiding inside an upstairs bathroom and was apprehended without incident. He was not armed and no one was injured.

Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris says lawmen, teachers, and students hold drills for school intruder and other contingencies.  He says they conducted themselves flawlessly today, proving those drills and safety precautions truly pay off.
