SPRING BREAK ARRESTS

Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested 152 spring breakers for underage possession of alcohol between February 28th and April 23rd.  Here’s the breakdown by state:

Louisiana : 54
Mississippi : 23
Georgia : 22
Alabama : 19
Missouri : 14
Tennessee : 7
Kentucky : 6
Florida : 4
Ohio , Texas , and Illinois : 1 each

73 of those arrests involved high school students. Deputies made 52 arrests of spring breakers for other crimes. Those offenses ranged from possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia - to retail theft and disorderly conduct. At least 16 of those arrests were of high school students visiting Okaloosa County beaches.

In 2005, there were 165 OCSO Spring Break arrests for alcohol.

The OCSO Community Policing Unit says a proactive, joint effort between law enforcement, property owners, and condo/hotel security managers, helped keep a lid on the number of serious problems this year.
