BRIDGE JUMPING WARNING

With the arrival of Spring Break and warm weather, the Okaloosa County Sheriff ’s Office is reminding the public that it’s against state law to jump or dive from a publicly owned bridge. Nothing requires the state or any other political entity to post signs notifying the public to this regulation. However, the Sheriff ’s Office has asked the State Department of Transportation (DOT) to consider posting signs on the Destin Bridge , traditionally a trouble spot for bridge jumping.

In addition, deputies warn that a spot on the bridge that’s been used by violators in the past used to have approximately twenty feet of water underneath it. This year, the water in that area is now estimated to be only four feet deep, underscoring the dangers of the illegal practice of bridge jumping.
