Escaped
Inmate Apprehended
An
Okaloosa
County
inmate is now in the custody of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office after he
fled from the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview on Monday, November 7th.
Michael William Herndon, age
36 (01-29-1969), was observed by Putnam County Deputies driving recklessly on
State Road 20 westbound around 6:45 pm Wednesday evening.
Herndon refused to stop after being directed by law enforcement and
attempted to elude.
After
approximately two miles, Herndon pulled over and provided a false name to
deputies. A
check was run on the vehicle, which indicated it was stolen out of
Crestview
,
FL.
A search of the
vehicle revealed a small handgun in the center console and a bottle of
prescription drugs. Herndon
was arrested on the following charges: attempting to flee or elude, reckless
driving, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated assault on a law
enforcement officer, and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Herndon was booked and transported to the Putnam County Jail.
