          The Okaloosa County Sheriffs Office Traffic Enforcement Unit will conduct a “Sobriety Checkpoint” on Thursday, May 19th on Highway 98 (State Road 30) West of Doolittle Boulevard in Mary Esther.  The goal of the Sobriety Checkpoint is to detect DUI’s, thus reducing death, injury and property damage.  The checkpoint will be conducted with minimal intrusion to the public by Okaloosa County Deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol.

In 2004, 973 DUI arrests were made by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, City Police, Florida Highway Patrol, and other agencies.  Out of the 973 DUI arrests, 421 arrests were made by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office alone.   

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is an active participant in the “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” traffic safety initiative.  Citizens should report apparent impaired, reckless, or dangerous drivers immediately by dialing *DUI, *SO or 9-1-1 from a cellular phone.
