Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris invites citizens to register for the Sheriff's Citizens Academy, which begins September 15.

Classes will be held from September 15 until December 1. Classes will meet from 6:00 until 9:00 Wednesday evenings at the Destin Community Center on Stahlman Avenue.

Students will be exposed to the wide range of programs, services, and responsibilities of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. Instructors for the academy will be members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, teaching within their individual areas of expertise.

Topics covered by the Citizens Academy include Patrol Procedures, Crime Prevention, Communications and 9-1-1, Crime Scene Processing, Narcotics Enforcement, Civil Process, Domestic Violence, Child abuse, Sex Crimes, Firearm Safety, School Resource Officers, Criminal Investigations, Homeland Security, K-9 Operations, Community Policing, Environmental Enforcement, and many more.
