The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a pedestrian traffic crash that occurred in Destin at approximately 11:20 p.m. last evening (Thursday) which left one man seriously injured.
The victim, Russell J. Wamble, age 47 (03-24-57), of 500 East U.S. Highway 98, was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola by Air Heart after he was struck by a 1994 Jeep, headed westbound, while he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 98 in front of the Hog's Breath Saloon, located at 541 East U.S. Highway 98. The driver of the Jeep, David R. Godwin, age 32 (06-01-72), of 113 Beth Lane in Santa Rosa Beach, was not injured.
Westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 98 were closed for approximately two hours and all traffic was re-routed north onto Benning Drive.
The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
