The Memorial Day Holiday Weekend in Okaloosa County has been marred by an apparent drowning in the Gulf of Mexico in the Crystal Beach area of Destin.

The victim, Mary Anne Malinowski, age 56 (7-27-1947), of 4485 Woodbridge Road, Niceville, was pulled from the Gulf by bystanders, after she encountered trouble while swimming with a friend a few minutes after 8:00 o'clock Sunday evening (May 30). The incident happened behind the Inn at Crystal Beach, 2996 Scenic Highway 98. .

Malinoskwi's swimming companion attempted to pull her to shore, then called for help when he reached the beach. Citizens in the vicinity found Ms. Malinowsi in the water approximately 15 feet offshore, brought her to the shore, and started CPR.

She was transported by Okaloosa County Emergency Medical Services to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, where she was pronounced dead at 9:26 Sunday night.
