The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash in Destin this morning (Monday morning).
Michael Charles Liddic, age 47 (12-1-1955) of St. Petersburg, died after the rental 2003 4-door Mitsubishi Galant he was driving was struck broadside on Emerald Coast Parkway at the intersection of Matthew Boulevard. Liddic's passenger, Madeleine Nelson, age 32 (5-26-1970), of Washington state, was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle, Jacob Matthew McKelvey, age 22 (11-6-1980), of Niceville, was taken to Twin Cities Hospital in Niceville. Neither Nelson's nor McKelvey's injuries are considered life-threatening.
The crash happened at approximately 6:40 this morning when McKelvey's 1999 Ford pickup, westbound on Emerald Coast Parkway (US Highway 98), apparently ran a red light at the Matthew Boulevard intersection, striking the Liddic car on the driver's door. Liddic was in the process of making a left turn onto eastbound Emerald Coast Parkway.
The crash happened during inclement weather. Charges are pending completion of the investigation.
