Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris urges citizens and businesses to take advantage of a worthwhile training opportunity next Tuesday, January 21.
A free two-hour class on detecting fraudulent and counterfeit checks and identification cards is scheduled for 1:00 - 3:00 o'clock that afternoon at the Destin Community Center on Stahlman Avenue.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) are offering this class in response to a recent increase in reports of counterfeit checks. Many of these reports have involved counterfeit payroll checks that have been successfully passed at supermarkets and other business locations.
The class will be especially suited for supervisors and employees of retail establishments that accept payroll and/or personal checks.
No pre-registration is necessary, the class will open to all interested parties as long as space is available. For more information, call Corporal Rick Hord at (850) 651-7420 or Investigator Keith Matz at (850) 609-2094.
