The suspect from a Wednesday night shooting has been arrested. Jarrad Jazzareal "J-Bird" Knox, age 18 (6-29-1985), of Pippin Drive, Mary Esther, voluntarily surrendered himself today (Thursday) after learning from news media accounts that he was sought in connection with the shooting of Andre Hardaway, age 31 (7-30-1972), of Fort Walton Beach.

Hardaway was treated and released from Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Wednesday night (October 8) after sustaining a gunshot wound to the right thigh. The incident happened at approximately 8:00 o'clock Wednesday evening in the 200 block of Cypress Street in the Sylvania Heights area of south Okaloosa County.

Victim Hardaway and at least one other witness identified Knox as the assailant who fled the scene. A search of the crime scene produced three spent casings from a 12-gauge shotgun in the area where the witnesses reported gunshots.

In a statement to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Knox claimed he was home at the time of the shooting, and said he does not know why the victim would say he had shot him.
