The Northwest Florida Regional Airport provides commercial air passenger service for a vast area of Northwest Florida, handling more than 800,000 passengers in 2010 alone. For those who visit the area, the airport may be their first impression of Okaloosa County and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, which provides security for the facility, wants to ensure it is a positive one. Our agency works to ensure both locals and visitors alike feel safe here from the moment they arrive. With a pleasant climate and beautiful surroundings, it is easy to see why both business and recreational travelers visit Okaloosa County frequently and often decide to make it their home.
In July of 1997, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was approached by the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners to provide law enforcement services at the Northwest Florida Regional Airport. Eleven deputies and six civilian personnel currently work full-time to provide law enforcement and security services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each deputy is trained in Federal Aviation Administration & Homeland Security regulations for security. Aside from their regular law enforcement duties, deputies are also a great source of information for visitors. A new area can be a confusing place and the deputies will often assist people by directing them to the right location to board their plane or give them directions to a resort or hotel. When you see an airport deputy, go up and say “hello.” They will be glad to assist you in any way possible.
