A Crestview man suspected in numerous car burglaries tried to run from Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies Wednesday but had a change of heart when confronted by an OCSO K9.
21-year old Richard Benjamin Jones of 560 West James Lee Boulevard is now charged with resisting arrest without violence and has been served warrants for dealing in stolen property (organized). Members of the OCSO Fugitive Warrants Unit went to Apartment 141 Wednesday after obtaining information that Jones was there with his girlfriend, Jennifer Hall, who also had active felony warrants. When Hall opened the door, Jones went through a back kitchen window trying to flee.
He was able to scale a fence but was met by an OCSO K9 Unit. K9 Titan’s presence convinced him to stop trying to escape and Jones was taken into custody without further incident.
Investigators say Jones and Hall had been developed as suspects in local car burglaries after stolen property was discovered at multiple pawn shops. At their apartment they saw clothing and property believed to be linked to local crimes. A search warrant was obtained and executed Wednesday night.
During that time investigators found numerous stolen items, including a gun that had been reported taken during a car burglary in Santa Rosa County. They believe Jones is responsible for numerous burglaries to unlocked vehicles. 20-year old Jennifer Hall is charged with dealing in stolen property (organized) and providing false declaration of ownership to a pawn broker.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
