The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a pedestrian hit by a car while crossing Highway 98 in Destin around 8:30 Friday night.
47-year old George Rebert, no known address, was struck near the intersection of Indian Bayou Trail by a female driver heading west.
Rebert was taken to the Destin Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.
The driver remained on scene to assist deputies with their investigation.
Westbound lanes of Highway 98 in that area were closed during that timeframe.
It’s the second traffic related pedestrian fatality on Highway 98 in Destin in the past three weeks.
A Pensacola man, 41-year old Alfred Trimble Jr, was struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 98 February 15th and died at the scene.
