The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a newborn baby that was discovered last night in a white garbage bag in a ditch. Deputies responded to a home in Fort Walton Beach after getting a call from a doctor at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Wednesday evening. He reported that a woman who was approximately 38 weeks pregnant had been at the hospital two days prior. She returned Wednesday, but was no longer pregnant and there was no record of a birth.
Deputies went to her home and began a search. They found a newborn inside a garbage bag in a ditch not far from the woman’s residence.
An autopsy has been conducted and additional tests are pending. The OCSO is working in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
This is an active investigation and no additional details are being released at this time. Future updates however will be provided as warranted.
