BURKE ARREST REPORT

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fort Walton Beach man who was spotted waving what appeared to be a gun near Pryor Middle School this afternoon.

23-year old Charles Burke, no known address, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and breaching the peace.

The OCSO got a call around 1:10 from a concerned parent at Pryor Middle School who spotted Burke walking on Denton Boulevard waving what he believed to be a black and silver pistol.

Deputies quickly made contact with Burke, who matched the description that had been given.

Burke said, “It’s a BB gun” when he was approached.

Deputies found a silver and black BB gun tucked in Burke’s waistband underneath his shirt. The parent says he saw Burke point the item towards workers in a field at Pryor Middle School and was in fear for his own safety as well as for the children and workers on school property.

Burke says he was shooting squirrels.

Based on Okaloosa school policies, the recent school shooting in South Florida and the fact the victim was in fear for his safety and the safety of others, deputies say Burke’s actions created a breach of peace, causing the school to be placed on lockdown and disrupting the peace of students and faculty.
