The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has tied a man caught smashing a glass door in Destin on May 10th to a series of prior burglaries in the area, including at Destin United Methodist Church.
43-year old Kenneth Cade Ellis, Jr. was charged with criminal mischief after he was caught throwing a large brick through the front glass door at the abandoned Destin 10 movie theater, 759 Harbor Boulevard. A woman walking her dog called the OCSO after witnessing the actions. When deputies arrived, they noticed the tread on the shoes Ellis was wearing matched shoe tread impressions taken from the scene of another break-in.
During an interview with deputies, he admitted to possessing what he referred to as a bag of stolen items.
Following the investigation, the OCSO was able to link Ellis to numerous burglaries in Destin, including at the Goodwill on Harbor Boulevard, a car at a hotel on Palms Street in Destin, and numerous trailers and vehicles at Destin United Methodist Church.
Ellis faces six counts of burglary to a conveyance, two counts of grand theft over $300, and criminal mischief.
