A Fort Walton Beach man shot by a homeowner during an attempted home invasion robbery has died from multiple gunshot wounds.

An active warrant for home invasion robbery had been issued July 10 by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office for 27-year old Christopher Donaldson; however Donaldson passed away July 27th at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He had been there undergoing treatment since being shot around 12:30 p.m. June 18 during the incident at 406 Carmel Drive.

The homeowner says he had locked out Donaldson after Donaldson came in asking for “fruit”, slang for marijuana. He says Donaldson then forced open his door and pointed a gun inside. The homeowner told deputies he shot back multiple times in self-defense.

Other aspects of the investigation are continuing.
