The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office wants to alert area businesses to be aware of possible tampering efforts targeting the satellites that send and receive credit and debit card information and authentication.

A BP Gas station at 168 Eglin Parkway today reported that a technician had to be called in due to a low signal for satellite equipment connected to transactions.

The technician discovered someone had tampered with the equipment.

Investigators say businesses that experience unusual problems with the equipment used for credit and debit card verifications should be alert to the possibility of tampering. Contact your local law enforcement agency should you experience a malfunction and notice suspicious materials around the satellite transmitter/receiver.
