Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a car burglary spotted the suspect’s car and took him into custody following a brief chase that caused minor damage to two patrol cars and a Waste Management commercial vehicle.

Deputies got a 9-1-1 call just before 9 a.m. from a man at the Tom Thumb Convenience store near the intersection of Beal Parkway and Green Acres Road.

He said he was inside the store paying for his gas when another man climbed into his car. The car owner said a debit card was missing.

The suspect vehicle, a purple Lincoln town car, was seen turning onto Carmel Avenue. The driver led deputies on a short car chase before he got out at Pier One Apartments and fled on foot. He was taken into custody after a foot pursuit. During the chase the driver hit two patrol cars and a Waste Management vehicle. No one was injured.

Two passengers inside the suspect’s car were detained at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol will investigate the crash.

Additional details will be released later today.
