Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office

Every summer, some middle and high school students in Okaloosa County volunteer to go back to school. The Sheriff's Office Okaloosa Youth Week is a class that occupies half of a day for a week each summer. Students who attend will learn what is right and what is wrong about the way the police are portrayed on TV and in the movies. If gives young men and women a chance to explore the world of law enforcement first hand and it also gives officers the opportunity to interact with Okaloosa County's local youth.

Students of the Okaloosa Youth Week will fingerprint each other, conduct simulated traffic stops, analyze clues to solve a crime, and even handcuff the suspect. Students graduate with an increased understanding of how crimes are solved, how state laws are applied, and why law enforcement officers do what they do from day to day. Some of these students will go on to become members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Explorers and possibly even choose law enforcement as a career.

Okaloosa Youth Week is run by School Resource Officers, and the teachers are members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. For more information about Okaloosa Youth Week, talk to your School Resource Officer or contact Lt. Claudia Finn at (850) 651-7410.
