Phonetic Alphabet used by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office
Phonetic
Alphabets are employed to aid in spelling of difficult or unusual names, and
for
greater clarity when discussing license tag numbers serial or other ID numbers,
and on
other occasions. Without a Phonetic Alphabet, the recipient of a transmission
may copy
an "8" instead of an "A", or may easily confuse similar
sounding letters, such as "M" and
"N", "S" and "F" and "P", "T"
and "D".
The
Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office uses the military phonetic alphabet, commonly
employed in government, civilian, amateur and commercial communications.
