    DEPUTY SHERIFF

Brief Description of Duties:

The duties of this position require a constitutional law enforcement officer, requiring the regular bearing of arms and be proficient in their use. Patrols areas of Okaloosa County to preserve peace, prevent and discover criminal acts. Respond to calls for service and prepare written reports concerning involvement in the duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

*
Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officer.
*Valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record.
*High School Diploma/GED. 
*Must be at least 21 years of age.
*US Citizen.
*Not convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement as an adult. Good moral character as determined by a background investigator.
*Pass Physical Agility Test.
*Qualify with a semi-automatic handgun.
*Do not use tobacco products.
*Must be able to perform the essential functions of a deputy sheriff.

Hiring Process:

Physical agility test, firearms qualification, writing skills test, background investigation, oral interview board, medical exam, drug screening, and polygraph test. Final selection is based on the availability of positions.

Effective October 1, 2008
Starting Salary: $33,592

    COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERS

Brief Description of Duties:

Responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, law enforcement agencies and other sources. Operate a radio console and a computer. Must be able to sit for 7+ hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

*High School Diploma/GED.
*Valid Florida driver's license.
*Must be at least 21 years of age.
*Must be able to type 30-40 words per minute.
*Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.

Hiring Process:

Typing test, background investigation, drug screen and polygraph test. Final selection is based on the availability of positions.
