One Arrested and One Hospitalized Following Crash Involving Stolen Truck

DAMON O’NEAL PITTMAN ARREST REPORT A Fort Walton Beach teen is now charged with dealing in stolen property, following a traffic crash Tuesday involving a stolen truck. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol responded to a report of a traffic crash with injuries on Garrett Mill Road near Milligan around 7:34 a.m. It turned out that the crashed vehicle, a 1996 Ford F-150 pick-up truck, had been reported stolen on August 23rd from a home at 2941 Barton Road in Crestview. The driver was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center with serious injuries. The passenger, 18-year old Damon O’Neal Pittman of Fort Walton Beach, said he had been contacted by an individual in reference to selling stolen cars and that this particular vehicle was “given” to him. Pittman said he knew or should have known the truck was stolen. He is charged with dealing in stolen property. The investigation is continuing....

Baker Woman at Home During Attempted Break-In

A Baker woman called 9-1-1 after spotting a man with what appeared to be a crow bar trying to get into her home early this morning. The 52-year old resident on Etta Garrett Road says she woke up around 3:30 a.m. to the sound of someone banging on or kicking her front door. She says after heading towards the front door area, she grabbed her cell phone and looked up to see a man outside. She ran back to her bedroom and dialed 9-1-1. Deputies and a K9 unit arrived to search and secure the house. The front door glass had been shattered with a piece of equipment. They found blood droplets throughout the home and out into the garage. The intruder is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, approximately 5’8″ to 5’10″ tall, with close cut hair, a medium build, and a belly. He was wearing a white tank top and loose fitting dark colored shorts that extended past the knees. The homeowner said it did not appear anything had been taken from the residence. Attempted Murder Suspect Now in Custody

ZIGLAR ARREST REPORT An attempted murder suspect is now in custody thanks in part to multiple tips to Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers. Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Warrants Unit have been actively searching for 20-year old James Dakota Ziglar in connection with a shooting August 30 at Ziglar’s home, 1250 Chestnut Avenue near Crestview. Ziglar was arrested around 7:20 a.m. today following a traffic stop on Bird Drive. He’s accused of shooting 28-year old Joshua Armstrong of Crestview once in the head with a .380 caliber handgun. Armstrong remains in critical condition at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Witness Crystal Haynes said Armstrong and his girlfriend came over to the house Sunday evening looking for Ziglar. Ziglar arrived while they were talking and asked Armstrong “something about money”. Haynes says while Armstrong was in midsentence, Ziglar pulled a tan pistol from his waistband and shot Armstrong in the forehead. She says Armstrong did not have a weapon or make any threats to Ziglar prior to the shooting. Witnesses say Ziglar then calmly walked out of the home prior to deputies arriving on the scene. Suspect Sought in Attempted Murder Case

An active warrant for attempted murder has been issued for a Crestview area resident wanted in connection with a shooting Sunday evening at his home. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 20-year old James Dakota Ziglar of 1250 East Chestnut Avenue. Investigators say Ziglar shot 28-year old Joshua Armstrong of 2210 James Lee Boulevard once in the head around 6:30 p.m. Witnesses say Ziglar then calmly walked out of the house. The motive is unclear. An intense search has been underway, but Ziglar has not yet been located. Operation Safe Schools Numbers for Week Two

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is taking part in an initiative created by the Florida Sheriff’s Association called “Operation Safe Schools.” In the second week of operation, OCSO deputies reported 20 school zone warnings, issued 19 school zone citations, one warning for a pedestrian violation, one arrest for having no drivers’ license after a stop for a school zone violation, and 45 school zone safety calls involving issues ranging from school crossings to parking problems. The program’s goal is to protect students with increased patrols in school zones, at bus stops, and at crossing guards locations – and to increase public awareness about the need for vigilance now that school is back in session.
