Beginning Saturday, March 3rd, some cellular telephone customers will have a new way of contacting the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. Cellular-One users may use #OCSO to call the Sheriff's 24-hour communications center to report reckless drivers, suspicious activity, or summon assistance from a Deputy.
The new #OCSO number replaces *OCS, previously used by Cellular-One for the same purpose. The new number was made necessary by changes being made by the cellular company.
There is no change to the *SO number offered by Alltel to its cellular subscribers. Both services are free of charge, and are intended to reduce the call volume on 9-1-1 lines, which frequently become overloaded with calls from cellular telephones.
Cellular users are encouraged to use #OCSO or *SO instead of 9-1-1 to report traffic crashes, suspected drunk or aggressive drivers, and other incidents.
